the leaves are falling down, such a beautiful sound
a few days ago i was enjoying the fall colors and pondering how i love autumn even though it is essentially the time when everything dies. as i thought about leaves dying, i realized that i usually enjoy it when things end. i find great pleasure in finishing off a bottle of shampoo or changing the month of my calendar. i haven't yet decided whether i enjoy the actual death or being able to start anew. i'll have to see how i feel in the spring.

election day
it is finally here! i am so happy that the years of political warfare are drawing to a close. most of all though, i am SO impressed with the dedication of the people in my state to participate in the democratic process. our voter turn out is unprecedented in state history. we had over 2 million people vote in early voting despite waits up to 7 hours long. some people were standing out in the cold waiting to vote till 11pm last week.
in 2004 we had 3.3 million total voters so i am expecting a big turnout today. it looks like i won't be disappointed. people began arriving at the polls between 4 & 5 am here to ensure they would be able to vote. the picture to the left was taken at 6:30am and the line already goes until you can't see it anymore. to some extent i interpret these long lines as the Sec. of State's ineptitude, but mostly it is a testament to the determination of these voters to exercise their right to vote. i am especially happy to see many people who have never voted before getting energized about politics & participating in the process! good job, georgia.
